Bring Doc Ock to Work Day by silver-sehkmet Bring Doc Ock to Work Day by silver-sehkmet
Reason number 345987 why we all love Doctor Octopus: He can kick everyone else's ass.

I work at a bank. No one wants to give me their ID to cash their checks. I'm sorry, but it's bank policy. If I don't know you, I have to write your ID on the back of the check to give you monies. Is this SO hard to understand? I have to deal with shit like this, or real similar to this, on a daily basis, and it sure would be nice some days to have an Octopus on your side. Let's hear it for everyone who deals with utter crap at their jobs everyday! :cheer:

Why isn't it a real holiday? :cries:

I should have him come to work with me. Do you know how much frozen yogurt people almost purposely dump on the self serve machine trays!?

I did a polite homage to this picture once. But in retrospect I should have illustrated a different workplace problem for Otto to solve for me:

Customer on laptop: "It was a dark and stormy night..."

Otto: "Now I know I am probably interfering with your career as the next Truman Capote, but the wifi spot is for customers only...and unfortunately, you, who have sat here for three hours without ordering anything, are not in that group!"

What do you say, Otto? You'll like Starbucks...

What *I* don't get is why one branch of my bank makes me swipe my ATM card to cash checks and another one requests my ID. (And it's not like the one who requests ID doesn't have the proper tech to swipe the card. I saw the machine sitting right there.)

It's discrepancies that make me wary and not want to give out my ID. 'Cause I don't know who is following policy and who isn't. I don't know who to trust.

It's probably because every banking corporation has it's own policies rather than having one universal system (which would make way more sense). For example, M&T requires two IDs to cash checks if you aren't an account holder with us. However, no two banks appear to use the SAME forms of ID, so you can imagine the earful we get every time we gotta explain the policy. Over. And over. And over again.

I hate it.

But it's the exact same bank both times. Wachovia. It's just different branches. The one branch is in Dupont Circle (near my work), the other is in Silver Spring (near my home). That's the part I don't get.

When I get a job, I hope to get one that involves talking to as few people as possible.

But I also hope I can bring Otto anyway. I love the image of a huge guy with four mechanical arms coming out of his back popping up from behind the counter.

I think Otto would be very useful in dealing with people who can't read the goddamn signs that say Restricted research area, Authorized personel only. I'm sure he understands what damage the public can cause, mucking about in a lab and yelling at the animals to "do a trick!"

Excellent idea, I may follow suit. Or perhaps hawaiian t-shirt and board shorts.

Unfortunately, the only Ock I could bring to work is my plushie one, and he hasn't intimidated anyone but me. (As of yet.)

CUSTOMER: What, are you kidding me? I'm not buying a Service Agreement, that's, like, a hundred extra bucks!

OTTO: *stuffing the dude into the front-loading washing machine* Now, as you can see from your singular new vantage point, these washers are very complex machines that would cost an awful lot to repair. Are you sure you won't reconsider now?

ME: Show 'em the washbasket suspension next, Otto....

*le sigh* Oh, if only.... Comon, Otto. You'll like it there at Sears with me....

I think he would be insanely useful if he just stood anywhere where computer problems occur and/or are addressed and wore a "RTFM" shirt.

I'd wanna bring Wolverine to a job like that. I WOULD have said Sabretooth, but he'd kill 'em and I wouldn't wanna have to explain that. And Juggernaut would fall through the floor or not fit or something.

I was actually thinking about this yesterday. I was lookin' for a book for this woman when I idely commented how messy the section was. She immediately snapped "Well maybe it wouldn't be if you did your job correctly!" I kept my mouth shut but was quietly imagining Otto holding her upside down with one of his actuators yelling "Well MAYBE if inconsiderate little twits such as yourself put the books back in the proper order instead of throwing them around the store like apes SHE could do her job correctly!! Just because you're all too mentally inept to figure out alphabetical order don't blame her!!" he then threw her across the store and she got impaled on the Barnes and Noble's Junior sign....
...imagination is lovely...
